About Me

  • academic medical librarian in a library that looks like a table mulfordbrary
  • spiritual director - what the heck is that?
  • former biology major who still has a fondness for all things related to the life sciences (as a medical librarian, that helps a lot)
  • fondness for children's picture books (as a medical librarian, that doesn't help much)
  • live in a 1915 Arts and Crafts style home in a fabulous restoring neighborhood in Toledo, Ohio with my partner and our spoiled red tabby cat
  • too fond of Dutch licorice cats and Valrhona dark chocolate
  • on a trip to Lowe's, would rather look at colors of paint chips (just to look at the colors) rather than buy anything
  • known to jump out of the car (safely!) at stop signs to rescue lost/abandoned toys (except for that one time when I jumped out to rescue a wine glass)
  • when I journal, I write to an unknown "you"
  • love reading GQ and Esquire, though I am still trying to figure out the sexual orientation of their audience
  • Enneagram 4 but I don't have a costume, like many 4s -- I have a uniform: black turtleneck, jeans, black socks
  • I love chanting kirtan, even though it's not my faith tradition
  • I'm addicted to Farmville

Favorite Books

Fiction? mostly fantasy, including Lackey's Valdemar series and McCaffrey's Pern series; Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series is a hoot!

Non-fiction? Richard Rohr and Ron Rolheiser in terms of spiritual books (and apparently names that start with R); Christina Baldwin and Kathleen Adams for journaling books; autobiographical reflections: Anne Lamott

Favorite Television

I don't watch much television (and don't have cable or satellite), but I like the original NCIS, Nova, and Nature.

I'm also watching (re-watching) Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Star Trek: Voyager on DVD.

Favorite Crafts

In the far past, I quilted and knit; in the even farther past, I worked with soft pastels, watercolor, and handmade paper (using IBM card punches, if you remember those).

I am currently exploring:

  • papercrafts (collage, mailart, inchies, artist pages, bookbinding, etc.)
  • printmaking (intaglio and, everyone's favorite, potato block printing!); would like to learn letterpress some day
  • watercolor (taking class at the Toledo Museum of Art, trying to learn how the water and paint work)
  • prayer beads

Does cooking count as a craft? Hope so, because I love to cook too. We have our family of choice over once each month for Sunday dinner (the first dinner was Julia's Beef Bourguinon...who's idea was it to serve a four-day entree? Oh yeah, that was my idea!)

Swap Information

  • New to swapping on Swap-bot (as of December 2009)
  • Proceeding slowly so I don't over-extend (which would be very easy to do)
  • No private swaps right now

  • I will PM you if I don't understand the directions for a swap you host BEFORE I sign up (I want to make sure I know what's expected of me)

  • I'll rate you (I know how important that is here on Swap-bot); please rate me
  • if you're unhappy with me or my work, send me a PM letting me know before you rate me
  • I reuse packaging and am fond of non-traditional packaging (that will send swaps safely)

Wish list

I like:

  • paper ephemera and found lost-things
  • Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau designs
  • Inuit and other native Arctic peoples, Arabic, Ethiopian, Asian Indian images
  • images of body parts like eyes, hands, etc.
  • images with patterns and repeating shapes
  • images of plants and animals (especially unusual ones)
  • monochromatic or near-monochromatic images
  • religious images okay (especially of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and bodhisattvas); holy cards (new or vintage) and postcards of shrines (new or vintage) are welcome too!
  • odd, unusual, or interesting advertisements

I'm not-so-hip on:

  • scented things
  • pastels
  • traditionally girly or cutsie images
  • clowns
  • American flags

Please don't send food or beverages, though interesting food or beverage packaging is okay.

Dear Jolene278, I'm happy you enjoyed the painting of the passion flower on the postcard. I'd love to see a picture of a future passion flower in your garden someday. :) Have a beautiful day.
